法院是在自去年以来收到十几份请愿书后做出裁决的，裁决由首席大法官 D.Y. Chandrachud 做出。Chandrachud 强调了法院作为法律解释者而非立法者的角色，并驳斥了同性恋是城市或精英概念的说法。
