根据《美国天文学会研究笔记》上的一项研究，地球将在 9 月下旬至 11 月下旬迎来第二个小月亮。
这个小月亮是一颗小行星，长约 10 米，被地球引力拉入轨道。虽然小月亮非常罕见，但以前也曾出现过，特别是在 1981 年和 2022 年。天文学家将这颗小卫星命名为 2024 PT5，没有望远镜是看不到它的。这些小月是地球轨道上的临时访客，最终会在几个月或最长两年后移走。
离开地球引力后，小行星将重新绕太阳运行。小月由于体积小，与广袤黑暗的太空相比光线暗淡，因此很难观测到。这颗小行星要到 2055 年才会返回。
