美国财政部官员向国会透露，黑客是在12月利用第三方软件的漏洞入侵财政部系统的。网络安全专家 Ryan Kalember 解释说，攻击者利用了远程管理特权账户软件的漏洞。这使他们能够访问敏感但非机密的文件。这次攻击沿袭了中国国家行为者以供应链和网络安全工具为目标的模式。中国否认参与并反对黑客攻击。
