专家警告说，随着越来越多的物体绕地球运行，太空碎片正成为一个严重的风险。欧洲航天局（ESA）称，去年有1200块火箭和卫星碎片坠落地球，目前仍有约54000个大型物体在轨道上运行。

欧空局还对 ‘凯斯勒综合症 ‘发出警告，即碎片之间的碰撞会产生更危险的碎片。因此，从轨道上清除无法工作的大型物体非常重要。法国目前是欧洲空间碎片风险最高的国家，有 500 多件垃圾和 100 多颗在轨卫星。虽然法国遵循联合国减少碎片的规定，但专家表示，大量碎片的串联可能会阻止我们在未来进入太空。

英国和欧空局的碎片数量较少，其中英国尽管拥有庞大的卫星群，但碎片数量非常少。欧空局正致力于更好地清除碎片，但碎片的法律所有权和资金短缺仍是大问题。解决这一问题需要全球合作。
