动物园管理员开始用手喂养小秃鹫，因为真正的父母不再照顾它们了。如果秃鹫太习惯与人相处，它们就可能学不会如何与其他秃鹫一起生活。这就是所谓的 ‘印记 ‘问题。为了避免出现这种情况，动物园使用了外形酷似秃鹫的木偶，这样小秃鹫就会认为它们是在和自己的同类一起生活。动物园以前也对其他鸟类使用过这种方法。
