由于它的宽度约为250公里，因此它是已知拥有这种星环的最小天体。人们认为，这种星环只能在更大的行星周围形成，如土星或海王星。
当这颗小行星在一颗恒星前移动时，天文学家才注意到这些星环，它投下的阴影有南美洲那么大，这激发了他们仔细观察的兴趣。他们还不知道星环是如何形成的，不过有一种理论认为，星环是由冰、鹅卵石和其他来自太空大碰撞的碎片组成的。
