此举是对该国越来越多的极右活动的反应。将不可能在旗帜、臂章或衣服上使用纳粹标志和党卫军徽章等符号。该禁令将不包括纳粹礼节，将由各州政府决定如何限制它。澳大利亚的情报机构警告说，极右翼团体的存在越来越多，它们的组织性和可见性越来越强。违法者最多可被判处12个月的监禁。
