芬兰警方报告称，首都赫尔辛基附近万塔的维尔托拉（Viertola）学校发生枪击事件。
枪击事件发生在一所约有 800 名学生的小学。事件发生在复活节假期后复课不久的早晨。警方迅速做出反应，拘留了嫌疑人并没收了枪支。警方确认有一人死亡，并称这是一起悲剧事件。芬兰总理对受害者及其家属表示震惊和同情。
