老挝的救援人员从被困洞穴超过一周的五名村民中救出了第一人。
这五名男子进入洞穴寻找黄金，但暴雨骤至，洞穴内迅速积水。其中一人及时逃出并通知了警方。 周三，潜水员在距离出口约300米处发现了另外五名幸存者。救援人员向他们提供了水、食物和保暖毯。周五晚间，他们将第一名男子救出，该男子随后前往就医。由于救援难度极大，营救其余四人的工作暂停了一天。
救援人员还在搜寻另外两名失踪者。洞内水深且通道狭窄。部分参与此次救援的人员曾参与2018年泰国少年足球队的救援行动。
