他们把化石放在电子显微镜下观察，起初希望能发现眼睛，但他们惊讶地发现牙齿也在向他们微笑。这种动物被称为 “Hallucigenia”，其形态类似蠕虫。它大约有 5 厘米长，有 7 对以爪子结尾的腿，背上长满了长刺。
它的嘴被牙齿包裹着，喉咙里也有牙齿，当它吞咽食物时，牙齿可能可以伸缩。
这种生物与现代昆虫关系密切，5.08 亿年前死于泥浆中。
