泰坦号潜水器在泰坦尼克号附近倒塌。这次事故导致船上的五人全部死亡。
美国官员证实了这一事件，并对探险家的家属表示同情。海岸警卫队发现有两个区域散落着潜水器的碎片，如前面的部分和用于空气压力的室。坍塌与救援人员先前听到的奇怪声音无关。电影制片人詹姆斯-卡梅隆也是这个项目的一部分。他表示，一个强大的事件导致了这次坍塌。
遇难者家属对搜救队表示感谢。目前还不清楚救援人员是否能打捞出尸体。操作该潜水器的公司可能面临法律指控。
