丹麦比原计划提前两年实行女性义务兵役制。
2024 年 7 月 1 日之后年满 18 岁的女性可从 2026 年起应征入伍。现在，男性和女性都必须参加一年一度的投票，如果没有足够的志愿者参军，则抽签决定。此外，丹麦还将兵役期从四个月延长至十一个月。为了应对来自俄罗斯日益增长的威胁，丹麦还增加了 68 亿欧元的国防预算。虽然女性义务兵役制在欧洲并不多见，但瑞典早在八年前就引入了这一制度，北约成员国挪威也在十年前引入了这一制度。拉脱维亚和立陶宛等其他国家也在考虑采取类似措施。冷战后，许多欧洲国家暂停了征兵制度，但俄罗斯吞并克里米亚和乌克兰战争改变了这一状况。例如，德国面临兵员短缺的问题，但要实行女性义务兵役制，需要修改宪法，这在政治上具有挑战性。
