2023 年第二季度全球债务达到 307 万亿美元，创下新纪录。
尽管利率上升，银行放贷减少，但这一情况还是发生了。国际金融研究所（The Institute of International Finance）的一份报告称，债务仍在继续上升。2023 年上半年，全球美元债务增加了 10 万亿美元。在过去十年中，全球债务增加了 100 万亿。
报告称，增长放缓和物价上涨导致了这一增长。大部分新增债务来自美国、日本、英国和法国等发达国家。在新兴市场，中国、印度和巴西的增幅最大。
国际投资基金表示，随着利率上升和债务水平提高，政府和人民将面临更大的压力。
